Solutions

Interconnect solutions matched to the environments, duty cycles and standards of eight different industries.

Our industrial interconnect solutions span eight application areas, and each one asks something different of a connector. The sections below set out how we approach the specific failure mode involved in each.

Compliance documentation covering RoHS and REACH is available for every part number we supply, and high-speed interconnect is sourced through Amphenol‘s authorised channel.

The sections below set out how we approach the eight application areas that make up most of our order book. Each one names the products and construction choices that solve the specific failure mode involved.

Industrial interconnect solutions for automation and manipulators

Automation cells combine continuous motion, oil mist and electrical noise from drives on the same cable carrier. The dominant failure is not electrical but mechanical: conductors work-harden and fracture where a cable was never designed to flex.

We address it with drag-chain rated assemblies built from finely stranded conductors, textile or PUR fillers and a jacket rated for continuous motion — the same construction we qualify to 10 million bending cycles. On the connector side, screw-lock and latch retention prevent the vibration loosening that a friction-fit coupling cannot resist.

Typical products: SCSI cable assemblies, D-SUB cables, M12 connectors.

Industrial interconnect solutions for servo motor and motion control

Encoder feedback errors are rarely the drive’s fault. They usually trace back to a cable whose pair assignment, shield bonding or characteristic impedance differs from the original — particularly when a replacement has been sourced on price alone.

Our servo cables are cross-referenced to the original part numbers for Siemens SINAMICS V90, Panasonic MINAS A5/A6, Mitsubishi MELSERVO and FANUC platforms, with pair assignment and shield strategy matched to the OEM design so commissioning does not throw encoder alarms.

Typical products: Servo motor cables, servo encoder connectors, M23 connectors.

Industrial interconnect solutions for machine vision

Camera links fail in subtle ways: an image that drops a frame at high line rates, or a link that trains intermittently. The cause is usually shielding that stops short of the shell, or pairs that were not impedance-controlled through the termination.

We build Camera Link and GigE Vision assemblies with individually shielded pairs, 360° shield termination to the connector shell, and matched pair lengths. For GigE installations we supply RJ45-to-M12 cables in A, D and X coding, with Cat.6A construction where 10 Gbit/s is required.

Typical products: Camera Link cables, MDR cable assemblies, USB 3.0 cables.

Machine tools and metalworking

Coolant, chips and vibration make machine-tool environments genuinely hostile. Cable jackets must resist oil and coolant without hardening, and connectors must stay sealed against fine metal particles that will otherwise bridge contacts.

For these installations we specify oil-resistant PUR or TPE jackets, IP67 sealed connectors, and additional strain relief at the cabinet entry where most flex damage originates.

Typical products: servo motor cables, industrial connectors, high-speed cable assemblies.

Automotive and EV production

Automotive test benches, weld cells and battery production lines subject cables to rapid cycling and mechanical abuse. The requirement is usually volume consistency rather than exotic performance: the thousandth cable must measure the same as the first.

Overmoulded constructions suit these programmes because the termination is sealed and tamper-resistant, and our tooling is amortised across the order rather than charged up front. Batch testing and traceability documentation support the quality records automotive customers are required to keep.

Typical products: custom cable assemblies, D-SUB cables, sealed connectors.

Medical equipment

Medical devices bring a documentation burden that consumer electronics do not: material declarations, change control and consistent performance across a long production life. Signal paths must also stay quiet, because a diagnostic or imaging system amplifies whatever noise the interconnect introduces.

We support these programmes with shielded, low-noise assemblies, RoHS and REACH declarations, and change-notification discipline that keeps a validated design valid.

Typical products: LFH connectors, double-shielded SCSI cables, USB assemblies.

AI data centres and high-performance computing

Beyond the traditional industrial sectors, high-bandwidth signal transmission has become the foundation of intelligent systems. AI racks demand denser ports, higher per-lane rates and better thermal performance than the previous generation of networking equipment.

As an authorised Amphenol distributor we supply genuine high-speed interconnect across SFP, SFP28, QSFP, QSFP28, QSFP-DD, OSFP and OSFP-XD, CFP2/CFP4, CDFP, MCIO, Mini Cool Edge, Gen-Z, Oculink, SlimSAS, PCIe SAS U.2, MiniSAS HD, AirMax and Power Card Edge — from 25G through to 224G per lane.

Typical products: Amphenol connectors, Oculink and MiniSAS cable assemblies.

Test, measurement and laboratory automation

Automatic test equipment lives or dies on contact reliability. A fixture may see thousands of mating cycles a year, and a single unstable contact position turns into measurement drift that is difficult to diagnose.

Our LFH range — covered by utility model patents — was developed for exactly this duty, with contact retention geometry that keeps positions stable through high cycle counts. We also supply SDR, SCSI and VHDCI assemblies for instrumentation and data-acquisition racks.

Typical products: LFH 160 and 200-pin connectors, VHDCI connectors, SDR and SCSI connectors.

Not sure which construction you need?

Describe the application — motion type, environment, signal type, mating cycles and annual volume — and our engineering team will recommend a construction rather than simply quoting the part number you asked for. That conversation usually saves more money than any price negotiation.
