Coding, sealing and field assembly

M8, M12, M16 and M23 connectors brought a level of ruggedness to factory networking that consumer-style connectors could not match. The coding system is central to that: it makes an incorrect connection physically impossible rather than merely unlikely.

  • Confirm the coding before ordering — A, B, D and X coded parts share a thread but are not interchangeable.
  • Field-wireable versions let maintenance teams terminate on site with standard tools, which matters when a moulded lead would mean waiting for a delivery.
  • Check the cable entry diameter and conductor cross-section range for field-wireable parts against the cable you intend to use.
  • Tighten to the specified torque. Over-tightening deforms the sealing face; under-tightening allows water ingress.
